I am going to be starting a new forum soon. I need advice for selecting a host. I don't really trust free hosts, as they go out so often. What suggestions do you all have?
Quoted for truth. Unless you are running a ton of different sites or storing music and videos on their servers you won't need anything more than their basic package. Hell, Forum Promotion still used it when last I checked and they are huge!
I can give you one free host that you can trust- xisto/trap17. Trap17 has been around for over 5 years and have been providing the same service for the entire time. Trap17 recently moved over to xisto a year ago, and now people on the trap17 post to host are on a paid hosting server, and can get domains, resellers and VPS'. I've had little to no downtime since I've been hosted with them for approximately 15 months now.
I have used 2 Host U at one point, but they have now merged with Pluto Host. http://www.plutohost.net if you'd like to check out their plans. I think it's all paid plans from what I was led to understand.
I have a very reliable free host if you want to try, as well as paid hosting. I also provide a subdomain if you don't have a domain. We have not had a down time yet since we started. 🙂
