My forum opened in late February '09, so it is only a few months away from it's first birthday. The question I have to pose you is, what kind of activity should I be aiming for coming up to it's first year open?

Right now, according to the board stats it's at:

Threads: 1,301
Members: 484
Posts per day: 139.98
Threads per day: 4.32
Members per day: 1.61
Posts per member: 87.15
Replies per thread: 31.42

Any views on this?

That's great DarkRaven, well done. Your forum has reached a level of activity, where it is no longer a new forum. This will help you to attract even more members and to grow even quicker in the future.

Great achievement for one year. You shoul be aiming for 20 online active users a day atleast and possibly the extra ten on the year anniversary, but keep it up.

Some forums get those stats per month.
I suppose it depends on your type of forum, if its inviting / keeps the members attention, and how much you promote it.

Wow, nice stats.

To me, usually about 100 members and 10,000 is what you should aim for per year as the minimum.

Like many forums, the general discussion/off-topic/lounge caters for most of the posts, and in your case it covers over half.

You should try and balance it out with more activity in the other forums, since it starts to become a general discussion forum, rather a creativity forum.

If i achieve that after a year i'll be pretty happy!

The only real concern is what dotDavid said, you need to focus on members posting creative content - and actually posting it, not just replying to others work. Keep it up though, best of luck!

Yeah, I'm about to start a general push to get people back into the writing part of the site now. I've started monthly competitions going to get people more involved. I'm looking at other options as well.

Seems great for the first year. Some people expect less but that is very good.

Well, good luck with it. Hope to see the balance better in your forum. I'm sure competitions, and some with money, will get those needed posts in the main section.

I'm getting a main site coded so we should be able to attract much more ''serious'' writers that way, when we have articles put up there. That's one plan at least. I'm not sure about competitions with real money. Most of my members are under 18 years of age. They don't have pay pal.

Thats not the thing. Its about attracting newer members (that have paypal) and them posting in the main section, causing those "younger" members to post there as well. 🙂 Like a snowball effect.

Ohhh... Well I'll try that as a last resort. I'm strapped for cash enough as it is. When I have the main site up, I'll try advertising more first. If that doesn't work, I'll do the posting competition as you said.
