Okay, I was on Tayne's server, but we have been so prone to hacking/cracking lately, it's not even funny. I'm actually thinking of starting all over with Chatting Time, and learning how to do somethings on my own, where I don't need administrative help. This includes learning how to install mods on my own and that sort of thing. I've signed up to a couple hosting sites, but they are so slow in activating your account, and I want to start work on my forum ASAP. This time around, I will add security measure rules and all of that to make sure we all have a fun time this time. But I really need a good host. One that has nice uptime, can activate your account quickly and easily, no broken links, etc. Yes, I know I'm asking for a lot, but I really want to run a succesful forum, but I can't do it on a server that's so prone to hacking/cracking... *sorry Tayne*.

Oh, by the way, I don't want a paid host. Nor do I want a post to host. I could go back to free hosting where they install mods for you, but there are so many anti-spam mods I want/need that it's almost not worth doing that. Any recommendations would be good.

If you want reliable hosting free hosting isn't gonna cut it for you. Overloaded and outdated servers will always be more vulnerable than quality paid hosts.

I'm talking like free hosts with Cpanel. I'm not talking free hosts like ProPHPBB. Never going back to that again. Even something like Post 2 host would be okay. I don't have funding for paid hosting anyways, otherwise I'd put loads more work and time into my site. I can only put so much time into it, which is why I'm running a general chat forum to begin with. Yes, there's still a lot of work to do with that, but it's more laid-back and more fun as well.

http://novahost.org/

I use them. Very, very reliable. Their support and account activation can be a bit slow, but otherwise they are very good in my opinion. Unsure if they are accepting new accounts yet, but I'm pretty sure they are, regardless of what the homepage says.

Well, their free plan isn't available, and I would use the post 2 host, but 200 posts is a bit much. Unless it's 200 posts per month??? I will keep them in mind though. Unless anyone's got anymore suggestions? Or are there any free Cpanel hosting sites that offer free domains with your forum? Okay, I know I'm asking a lot, but I guess you could say I'm looking for a lot as well.

Also, what do you think of MyBB for a general chat forum? I don't like relying on Tech Admins all the time to install mods, and they say MyBB is supposed to be pretty easy for mod installation. Would MyBB be good to use? I think the only problem I'd have with that is upgrading to the latest version, though.

Trap17 has had extremely good reviews lately from several people i'm in touch with, and they apparently even offer domains for a good number of posts. SiteFrost is another good choice.

A note though, as Gimgak said, a free host will *never* be what you want. I suggest finding a few methods of generating money online (there are only several millions, including paid forum posting) and get a paid host that will stand by you.

No offense to Tayne, but seeing as his host doesn't sit well with a lot of people (due to former actions taken by himself and others) it's going to be prone to hacking, a lot of people don't like him to this day.

It's 200 posts for the permanent upgrade. Their free plan will be available again soon, but as you want hosting now I don't know that I can think of another good host. All I know is that someone I know got an account accepted there recently, and it was free.

I know his host didn't sit well with me. We've been hacked twice in the 2 months that Chatting Time has been up. Really slow loading times at the weirdest times too. Especially at night. I might give Sitefrost a go.

As for money-making online: I have SSI (Social Security Income) and I am only allowed to make so much, so that's out of the question right there, otherwise I would consider that option.

Sorry for the double post, mate. You and I must've posted at the same time lol. I think I signed up with Trap17, but I'm not 100% sure. I've signed up with a few different hosts, actually. I think at this time tomorrow, whichever confirmation email is first in my inbox, that's the one I will accept.

As for the forum software, I think we'll have Chatting Time on MyBB, as it's easy to do mods and pluggins and things, and as we're a general chat forum, we won't need that many mods and such. So I think It'll go over a lot better than PHPBB has done. No offense to PHPBB lovers though.

Chris (wehostyour.info) has been running a good host for a while now. And yes, MyBB > phpBB.

Hah, someone agrees with me! And yeah, I will check them out. I don't know if I'm registered there or not, though. I think I was.

Okay, I have decided to go with Host 2X I believe it's called. Hopefully this works out well and I get my activation email soon.

Okay, I think this can be marked as "Solved", as I have found a host. Make that several, but I think I'll go with 365 hosting. Just need the confirmation email from them and things like that.

I hope everything works out for you, Ashley. 🙂

Thanks! I wonder how many confirmation emails I'm going to wake up to tomorrow... I'm just glad I'm done shopping for hosting at the moment. As for 000Webhost, I didn't like that one anyways because it didn't have MyBB. I thought all advanced sites offered that one?

You should be able to use MyBB with any host.

Well, I was looking in the Cpanel of one host (I think it was 000Webhost) and I saw PHPBB and SMF, but I didn't see MyBB, unless I wasn't looking carefully... Ah well, at least I'll be on a host that offers it, anyways.

Hmm. Although they may not offer it pre-installed or whatever, you could still upload it and install it manually.

I'm just clarifying in case you find yourself in that situation again. 🙂
