Hey guys,

I'm trying to pick out a good computer. I'm wondering if this processor/graphics card is good for gaming:
AMD Phenom(TM) X4 840T quad-core processor [2.9GHz, 2MB L2 + 6MB L3 shared, up to 4000MHz]

And graphics card:
1GB DDR3 AMD Radeon HD 6450 [DVI, HDMI. VGA adapter]
or
2GB DDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GT 530 [DVI, HDMI, VGA adapter]

I'm debating between getting an AMD card and an Intel card / AMD Graphics card and Nvidia card. Ideas?

I would go for the 2GB GeForce GT 530. It seems more powerful. That CPU should be sufficient. 😉

If you are trying to put together a very low-cost machine that can play most games acceptably, then you can't beat AMD. However, Intel's Sandy Bridge i5 and i7 chips perform better.

I would go with an intel if you are going to be gaming.

As for the GFX card the nvidia card would be the better choice.

Alright.

Anyone recommend a good computer company? I'm debating between Dell and HP. I'm leaning towards Dell, they have better specs for a lower price.

Custom-building is the way to go for sure. If that's not possible for you, though, then I would recommend ASUS or Gateway. Those two don't seem to build desktops to fail. Dell and HP usually just slap in dirt cheap power supplies that might last until the warranty expires.

I actually just bought that exact cpu, it runs like a dream and I've had no issues so far with it, worth the price compared to the others.

Any others you recommend? Any that I can buy online?
Newegg has got loads and loads of great, affordable systems of all brands for any price range, and their reviews can be trusted.

While were on this topic, can i just ask whats with core i7 that made it more powerful than AMD?

Actually, you can get a GREAT HP Computer/Laptop for cheap. Also, I'd go with the Nvidia.
