I can devote a great deal of time into the Forum along with a fresh ideas and my enthusiastic approach. I have experience on a number of Forum, and am well acquainted with admin/modcp and the experience on these Forum has given me an idea of how users should be treated, how to use all Moderation systems and how to act professionally.

Haha! To be honest, I remember getting applications from guys that were done out like a friggen resumé. It didn't help. I was actually a supermoderator at the time, something like 8 or 9 years ago. I didn't make final decisions, but all of the s-mods had a say in who they wanted to work with. It was insane. I mean, there's no chance in hell that I'd consider someone for a mod if they think they are better than everyone else, even if they have a whole slew of small failed forums on said resumé. Their forum behaviour wasn't very good. lol.

I think that how you post and behave on the forum is much more important than any application. If you are a good member, active, if you report posts without getting into the middle of a spat yourself, are able to post objectively, are interested in helping the community without pining to be a moderator, then I'll think about that person in a positive light. The last two moderators that were "hired" didn't even expect to be asked. They were chosen for maturity, quality of their posts, ability to overcome personal issues with other members and take the higher ground. That stands out to me.

If an active forum is openly taking application for mods, they're going to take into account your posting habits. 😉

And the persons behavior on the forum

I would use the criteria of a 'good application' only if I have conflicting candidates. But I do agree, a professional application will please me and make a good first impression.

I don't know why a person's choice of username has any bearing over someone's fitness as a staff member. I also don't know why age and timezone is of importance to the person doing the hiring as they have no bearing or relevance to the time you can expect them to be around. I for instance am in EST but due to my night shift job are around the normal times that an average Australian would be up and possibly online as seen through the perspective of someone in EST. As for age, I as I am sure many of you have seen many examples of older people acting childish and children acting with the maturity you would come to expect from an adult that demonstrates age has very little to do with maturity and that is usually why people bring up age in such matters.

As for talk about what they could bring, I would urge that any application given to you that seems to give you everything you want and nothing you don't should be automatically hurled into the garbage. Why you ask? Simply put, no one is capable of giving you everything you want so someone who does make those claims is lying to you simply to get on the team. All they are concerned with is winning you over and have no care as to what you want or if you get it out of them. I would want someone who is honest about what they can give, honest about what they can't and is humble in how they relate to others especially to those who may be competing against for the job they are applying for. This is the person I would want to hire because they will strive to give you all you want that they can give, strive to give you their best effort in giving you the things that they can't currently give you and be willing to be taught and grown to become all that they can be. This is not something that can be faked because those who would fake their way through will not see the benefit in revealing weakness and will instead lie everywhere and in everyplace that the truth will bear out weakness because they can't see how bearing their weakness will be a plus and not a negative in their job search. It's also apparent they can't see the strength in honesty which is another character failing that makes them incapable of being the person you need them to be.

As for experience, I have learned that it is not how long you spent in the classroom but how much you listen to the teacher and life is full of teachers of which not all have a desk with their name on it but are great teachers who teach great lessons but only if you are willing to be taught. You'd be surprised at how many are unwilling to be taught and would rather remain ignorant to avoid having to profess weakness in any given area. Pride or a lack of humility makes someone unteachable and someone who can't be taught can not be grown and will stay as they are and either end with you kicking them out of the team or them dragging your team down. A lot of damage can come out of one bad staff hire so I would urge those who have anything to do with hiring people to be careful in who they hire to avoid damaging the team and them forum you hold some form of title that would be considered a boss or leader.

Okay, a name like "Hacked" wouldn't prevent me from modding them. An inappropriate username might. Although, I have a tendency to change inappropriate names to things like FluffyPinkPrincess when they sign up until they agree to pick something appropriate for a PG13 forum.

When selecting candidates, sometimes I would consider timezones based on who is already on board. If there are 4 people that I really like and we only need 2 moderators, I might put the suggestion in to choose the one who will cover a timezone that isn't properly covered. 9 times out of 10, they'll not be working nightshift.

I wholeheartedly agree. There are plenty of people that are old enough to have kids who are members on the site too that I'd NEVER EVER give a mod position to. XD. In fact, many years ago, we had a mod on our old site that was 14 years old. He was an excellent mod. People found out his age and weren't happy to be told what to do by a kid, but he was far more mature than those same people.
