Last night, at approximately midnight Google released a public BETA of Google Chrome! ~cheesey_grin~

Google Chrome is a browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster, safer, and easier.

Download: http://www.google.com/chrome

Personally I love it. It has lots of small little features that make it fairly exciting. For example each text box has the option to drag it to be bigger or smaller (A feature inspired by Netscape), the Tabs and Quick-Bookmarks (inspired by Firefox) and the way it automatically highlights an active text box if no active style has been assigned to it in the stylesheet.

I also love the way there is no empty space, I would describe it as a very clean web browser - nice colour scheme and as i said no empty space. Finally, i have noticed it to be faster than firefox. Seeing as it's open-source i look forward to what people will develop, and what other skins will be available in the future.

So far i have only noticed one minor problem when you hover over a BBCode button the "Tip:" doesn't quite change correctly.

What is your opinion?

I agree. I downloaded it as soon as it came out.

Been working fine on Vista. Only problem so far was when I was using it to browse files on a remote server & tried to delete one the yes/no buttons would not come up on the pop up so had to revert to my old browser to delete it. But it certainly seems to load some things I've always found slow a lot quicker.

Overall I like it.

Well, some problems are to be expected with the first BETA. I have justcome back to FireFox as when you're browwing Forums with Chrome the whole page reloads when you open / leave a topic, so it flashes white every few seconds.

Needless to say, it can become quite annoying ~cry~

I have tried it out although it is ok to use i do prefer Firefox as i have alot of add-ons for Firefox that i do use alot.

As you say some problems are to be expected, but I'm not experiencing this problem

Anybody using the Vista skin with WindowBlinds may not want to use this, it doesnt work too well...

I used this for around 4 hours this afternoon.

It has some damned nifty features but it has a couple major flaws that I'd need fixed before I used it over FF3 (its in Beta, so I'm keeping an eye out for updates 😛).

1) On vBulletin boards the "What You See Is What You Get" editor doesn't work with it. Neither do keyboard shortcuts for text formatting on vB (i.e. press ctrl+b for bold).

2) You cannot scroll up/down/left/right by clicking the mouse wheel and moving the cursor... Which is the only way I ever scroll.

3) For some reason it doesn't let me log in with some of the forums I visit.

If it's like any other google products it won't come out of beta for years. Gmail has been in beta since 2004 or something

The wonders of Google -lol-

Google seem to be doing to much in my opinion. They have too many different things going at once as they offer so much like adsense, a browser, youtube/google video, search engine, analytics, webmaster tools, gmail, google earth and all the other the things they do. They never seem to concentrate on making 1 thing good as they get something up and working then move on to something else like with gmail as that is a classic example. They get it up and working and it works good they they just near enough forget about doing anything else to it and leave it in beta and just move on to another project which they will start then they will make something else that their attentions will turn too.

They seem to just want a massive list of things that can say they offer although most of them aren't that good as they haven't finished or have given up on rather then concentrating on a smaller number of projects and get those projects as good as they can be.

It will probably be too buggy, but I am going to look into it today when I get home and try it out. Who knows, I may just get hooked.

Try and go to about:% in the url field, I read that it crashes the whole browser

I downloaded it, used it for about a day and figured out that I like firefox better.

You're lucky as I take it none of you read the terms of service. If you had, you would have seen:-

11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. This license is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the Services and may be revoked for certain Services as defined in the Additional Terms of those Services.

Meaning any document, picture, flash, music or media posted or uploaded using Chrome is now googles property. This means they can redistribute it, edit it, claim ownership and use it on any site they wish.

After many people were furious about this, google changed it.

Google's Rebecca Ward, Senior Product Counsel for Google Chrome, now tells Ars Technica that the company tries to reuse these licenses as much as possible, "in order to keep things simple for our users." Ward admits that sometimes "this means that the legal terms for a specific product may include terms that don't apply well to the use of that product" and says that Google is "working quickly to remove language from Section 11 of the current Google Chrome terms of service. This change will apply retroactively to all users who have downloaded Google Chrome."

Taken I look at it. As well it's lacking in so many features.

To be honest I hate it. Im running Windows XP so its the blue version, which looks bland to me. The layout doesnt suit me well either. I think ill stick with Opera.
