Whenever I would shut down my desktop and Chrome is active it takes time for the procedure to take its course, something like an extra 30 seconds. I have noticed that the hard disk is being accessed. When I checked the task manager it was Chrome that was hogging the memory. I wonder what Chrome is doing on my hard disk. Any idea?

Doesn't take long for my chrome to shutdown. Even if I do close it it's still running in the background until I go to my task manager and force to close it down. Chrome extensions are always the problem it seems. More extensions it has the more your PC gotta work to run them. So what have you got running with chrome then?

Chrome takes up a lot of system resources which can bog down your PC. If you don't want this to happen then a browser like Firefox would always be fast and wouldn't take 30+ seconds to shutdown. I use Firefox and it's really good so give it a try sometime.
Firefox uses even more resources than Chrome and crashes very frequently.
And it's set to use even more resources with it's own brand of site isolation for "security reasons".
Perhaps, they would be better off not providing as many largely useless features to JavaScript to scrape out tiny bits of performance which require ever tighter sandboxes.
We have long passed the point where JavaScript is largely "good enough" for most purposes.
Basically. Mozilla, Google, etc. want to compete with Apple and their app store by making things faster and faster, so that people can run video games in the browser and to hell with anything else.

I have Firefox in my computer but I use it for secondary browser only because Chrome is move convenient for me. What I do now before shutting down is to exit from Chrome at least 1 minute before the actual shutdown so that there will be now delay. With Firefox there is no such delay but I am not comfortable in using it like I do with Chrome.
