Today is Google+'s 2nd birthday, and with ~150 million active users (People who are actually updating their page), I think they're growing up pretty dang fast!
Be honest, did you think Google+ was gonna make it this far?
Not at all. And I don't really consider them successful.
If the site was run by anyone but Google with everything else being the same, the site would not have made it. It's the power of the network though, so they've obviously made it work.
I agree with Geoffrey. With the amount of traffic Google has and the amount of promotion Google seems to give Google+, it should really be a bit more popular than it is.
The biggest issue I see are that they are a bit too late to the game with alot of people and their friends on Facebook already and not seeing enough of a reason to change to something that is different yet so similar.
The entire design of the website is forceful and invasive. You can no longer make a google account for say gmail, analytics etc etc alone but you have to be involved with G+ - non-optional.
Why bother moving to google plus when you can use facebook and add all your friends within a few minutes compared to joining G+, filling out a profile, activation, verification, invitations etc...
Even thinking about the process gives me a headache.
I had hoped google plus would have died off quickly.
I absolutely hate the fact they're trying to push it into everything. I mean I wanted a youtube account so I could watch videos and keep a list of my favourites. I never cared for all this sharing/liking crap. I just wanted to watch videos.
Now you need a google plus account to have a youtube account to watch videos? Get out of here with that nonsense.
And you need a plus account for your email?
That's crazy.
Why? What conceivable reason could you give me for why I'd need a plus account for my email. I want to send/receive email and that's it. Don't force things on me that I don't want or need.
