Google Operating System

They tried this before with gOS and it failed badly...

Google is a great company, but stick to what you know best.

Yeah they are a Search Engine, leave the OS business to the already established Corporations/communities. Netbook Operating Systems are easy to use anyway :s

Google Chrome isn't doing that well really.
From the site posts above said:
Google's Chrome Internet browser, launched in late 2008, remains a distant fourth in the Web browser market, with a 1.2 per cent share in February

Wait until Google Chrome has plugin capabilities like Firefox.

But Opera is maybe getting the same thing, I doubt Chrome will do that well, there are too many browsers as it is.

It's not really a new operating system though

It'st just one more distribution of linux

If anything this is more of a problem to Ubuntu than Windows at the moment

Getting it on netbooks will be easy

But Desktops and laptops will be harder

Very little support for most games and software (I guess they may bundle wine with it?)

and because it's open source it's likely to be free so they won't have the money to do battle with microsoft.

Guess we'll have to wait and see, but I don't expect too much yet

I doubt many people gonna stand in line for it.. :/

More and more people re buying macs now, and since google chrome will be available for microsoft based pc's I doubt they will be successful.

gOS is not made by google. gOs stood for good os and yes it failed for the most part.

gOS however had no relation with google at all.

Google Chrome OS will run on both x86 as well as ARM chips and we are working with multiple OEMs to bring a number of netbooks to market next year. The software architecture is simple — Google Chrome running within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel. For application developers, the web is the platform. All web-based applications will automatically work and new applications can be written using your favorite web technologies. And of course, these apps will run not only on Google Chrome OS, but on any standards-based browser on Windows, Mac and Linux thereby giving developers the largest user base of any platform.

I think it will be a success and I will use it and Orc_Dragon yes it is open source.

@NBK*Twitch
I have to say you're wrong there, as I strictly remember everyone making a big deal out of it. Since the "attempt" failed though, it's possible they sold the rights to it and it became "Good OD".

I'll see if I can find some proof to back me up though.

Edit: After checking, people made a big deal because it came pre-loaded and pre-configured for Google widgets, sorry. My bad 😎

Oh my lord I cannot wait for this. Releasing sometime in 2010! It is going to be amazing. I will have it setup as a dual boot with my Windows 7 that i pre-ordered for October 22nd!

Its going to be amazing!

The initial release is going to be made for netbooks, so unless you want to try duel booting on a netbook then you'll have to wait a while for to get it on PC.

It will be interesting to see how Linux cope with this. The future of Linux coming as default on web books looks bleak since Google will be directly competing with them, and Microsoft are offering Manufacturers XP licenses "cheap as chips".

Looking forward to it. Moreso looking forward to seeing the User Interface, whether they'll go for the traditional Taskbar / Start Button or go for a Mac-Styles dock. 🙂

Or hopefully something completely different, it is Google after all. I also expect a lot of "Beta" updates for it >.>
