Google Pagerank Update (2nd August 2012)

If you dropped in rank after the last update, it probably because of one very important reason, and that is the Penguin update has at last kicked in.

The Penguin update is an algorithm designed to combat backlink spamming (link farms), Keyword stuffing, and over SE optimisation, in other words it's out to penalise you if you use any automatic forms of SEO.

What this means in laymans terms is that if you had say 10000 backlinks and you were on page one of SERPS, and Google found only 1000 of those links were relevant to your niche, then it would only count the 1000 for organic searches, dropping you to around page 600 !

www.tendify.com went from PR 0-1 in under 2 months which we were pretty pleased about. It seems that unique content is now valued higher by Google?

Google has included human beings in their algorithms. In other words, Google has a big staff who are paid to surf the web and review websites manually to distinguish between genuine content and bloody spam! So as other have stated in this thread original content is king.
