When do you think the next Google PageRank update will be, if there is one? As most of you know, the last confirmed update was in February of this year which is leaving a lot of webmasters with big question marks....

Thoughts?

No one can ever know for sure...except Google of course. They never release this information to the general public so we can only make a rough guess. 😛

I don't have a link with a reference. But I read on BAF, that Matt Cutts had tweeted to say that there won't be another PR update this calendar year.

I believe they are reworking the system and will be changing the method of which they assign pagerank - that's just my idea. If this is the case I think they will do an update at the start of the new year.

I heard they're phasing it out of the algorithm.

PR was always overrated in my opinion. The importance of PR has become harder to understand in the past few years. The system was always prone to cheaters as well. PR is an archaic feature that will probably continue to lose value unless Google decides to completely revamp it. PR does continue to play a substantial role in domain sales, but also less of a role in whole website sales. It's going to be interesting to see what happens in this case. In most likelihood, it looks like they'll switch to annual updates or something of that sort.

Yes, I've seen one too. 🙂 Although Matt didn't deny the possibility of another PR update this year, he did make it sound highly unlikely.

Did you hear this from a credible source? There's a whole market behind the PR, and I doubt they would take it out single-handed. I would rather expect a more gradual demise of PR.

Matt Cutts himself said that over time PageRank is getting less usage and that overtime PageRank will go away.

But as I've said earlier, it should be a more gradual change overtime, instead of phasing it out of the algorithm before the next update. I'd still expect another update, since there is nothing to suggest otherwise.
