Does anyone in the US use Google Voice?

I'm currently having a problem with cell phone service at my home and having a landline is too expensive so I thought maybe I should also get a Google Voice number and use that a as a back up when family can't reach me.

Pros? Cons?

Yes, it's exactly what I mean. It's frustrating using it for it.

I've been using Google Voice for a month now and I think I'll hang onto it for a while.

Some things I like about it are that even when I'm not using WiFi, it can connect using my service provider so my texts go through (haven't tried calls though).

The connection is clear on calls and no dropping like with my service provider.

Texts come through fairly quickly with minimal delay when photos are sent or received.

Some things I don't like, it wants to be my default and I don't know how to get it to stop bugging me about that.

As Anachiwo said above, it's not as intuitive for texting for filling in words like regular text messaging does.
