Grill With Skill.com

http://www.grillwithskill.com

I've decided to branch out and have started a companion site to my popular pool care site, troublefreepool.com.

The new site is http://www.grillwithskill.com - it covers all forms of outdoor cooking, including areas for disuccions of equipment, recipes, and more.

If you love to grill or BBQ, stop in and check us out. Oh, and don't forget to visit this thread to learn how you can win a free Toolbox grill! (contest is for US residents only).

If you do not follow these your topic will be trashed and your link removed.

"Topic trashed and link removed?" - not very friendly terminology. I think you'll find that a little tact will still get you the desired results, without lessening the user experience. jmo.

How about something like this,

I think you'll find the vast majority of people will happily oblige without having to be threatened with post "trashing." Are things so booming around here, that you can afford to be rude and lose members? I know we can't at my forum, and we have almost 2,000 users.

It is better to start your post with your forum name. If it starts with a description it means that you have to read most of the description before you realise that it does or doesn't interest you where as most of the time you can tell whether the site will interest you from the forum name.

I have edited it.

Anyway it would look better with a non default skin. I don't really like prosilver (the blue default version) although you can change the colour of it using Colorizeit and change it to grey on another colour which would look better. Also a logo would make it look better but i can see your forum is new so you will probably get around to these things.

Your way doesn't show what will happen if people don't follow the rules. Alot of people don't follow the rules and if they read what you put they will feel that we will let them off however the way it is now shows that it is not worth them breaking the rules as they know the consequences so it is a waste of their time. If they follow the rules then it is OK however the rules in the forum description, top of the forum in the rules box and set as an announcement there is no excuse for them not seeing the rules and not following them. It may sound rude but the only people it will scare off is the people who want to break them because they can't be bothered to post a few times.

It is only straight to the point to try ad get more people to follow the rules however about 4 or 5 people a day still don't.

My original version had everything that was required, except my username on my forum and the title of my thread made it very clear what the forum is about. I don't think "letting me off" would have had any negative consequences. A reminder to follow the prescribed format is really all that was required.

I'm not saying people shouldn't follow the rules - clearly I missed that post or would have gladdly used the requested format. However, the rude sounding response, intentional or not, is the sort of thing that will drive off quality members - not just rule breakers.

It's your site, you'll run it how you see fit. I'm just giving you my impression. I try pretty hard to be diplomatic in my responses to people on my site.
