Well? ๐Ÿ˜›

How many bans have you ever issued as a mod, admin, etc, on all forums you have ever moderated, against people, spam bots, etc? Take a guess. I'm not expecting anything precise. ๐Ÿ˜›

And no, I'm not saying that issuing a lot of bans is necessarily good. I'm just kinda curious. ๐Ÿ˜€

I have so far not had to deal with any spammer/bots. I do have a couple trolls on my forum and one in particular is getting annoying. I try to have limited rules and let members have some freedom but I don't really want to have a troll infested forum that I am paying for.

I created a private "drama llama" forum and the trolls seem to hang out there. I have requested some assistance monitoring their actions so they are not violating site rules because I just don't want to read that garbage.

My site has only been active for a week so I have not done much modding yet and I don't want to have to ban people. There is an interesting tool included with xenforo called "discourage" and I want to try that first.

Throughout my years I've probably only banned close to 50 people.

I think I'm pretty lenient and nice when it comes to being a part of my forum. To be banned you have to be pretty bad. ๐Ÿ˜›

I've got on in my forum that is testing how far he can push before getting banned ๐Ÿ˜•

I think around 20-50. Now, it might be 60. I just banned a big team of spammers.

On ALL of the forums I've ever moderated / administrated? I'd say it's probably somewhere between 300 - 500. I wouldn't be all that surprised if it exceeds that, though.

Are we counting server bans (like via .htaccess) too?
If so... Millions. Literally millions. (I've banned all of China, North Korea and Russia.)

If not... Then I'd say I've probably banned only a few thousand. (I tend to ban spambots via wildcard. So if they come in 123.456.789.000 then I'll ban all of 123.456.789.* or if that fails... 123.456.*.* which affects even more. Though I prefer single wildcard when I can since it's less likely to affect innocent users who are caught in that IP range.)

Disregarding spambots though and focusing solely on people... Probably somewhere around 20-25.

I'm not even taking the poll because it's probably too many to count. I don't think I banned anyone in 2008 or 2009 simply because as a newbie administrator, I had absolutely no clue what I was doing, and I didn't know what exactly would warrant a ban, even though I ran a general discussion community and it's a genera where almost anything could happen. Otherwise, between 2010 and now... it probably adds up to the thousands, if not more, by now. Mostly spam bots, some ban evaders who couldn't seem to take the hint that they were no longer welcome, and... yeah I think you get the picture.

I said 300-500. ๐Ÿ˜€ When I was a moderator on the RuneScape Official Forums, I banned a LOT of people, although most of those bans were for 24 or 48 hours, as that's all they allow. I've also banned a decent number of spam bots, but probably less than 50.

Probably in the thousands... all the spammers I banned on FP, TMF, and various other forums I've been a part of.

I have banned over 3000 people over the years, I am the most harshest banner ever. I am really strict on rules.

I'd probably say around 100-200, I try my best not to ban people because people make mistakes sometimes. Most of my bans are from trolls, intense rule breakers, spammers, etc.

I have banned lots of bots before I knew how to setup anti spam inclusions on forum(s). I would say i've banned over 500 people. but a lot of that is bots.

Hmm, I should have added a few more options to the poll! ๐Ÿ˜›

Do I seriously have to include spambots? They're several thousand on their own since for awhile MyBB had too poor anti-spam.

If I count actual forum members, I can recall four off the top of my head, and there's probably ~20 total. A few of these were actually mistakes on my part where no rule violation had actually taken place. There was also a group of guys who raided my forum (same one) a few times.

I am incredibly lenient due to my rules. You can be a troll on Ekunia, and as long as you contribute to the forum in your post, it's generally fine. I have non-moderative measures to combat drama. The fun part is that I get complaints about being strict. However...we are incredibly strict about debate. If you post as a mainstream individual on Ekunia's debate area, read the rules in triplicate, and make sure there are absolutely no violations of any of the eleven incredibly broad rules that destroy entire threads I see on most normal forums' debate sections -- I think Rule 5 alone kills entire debate areas of other forums on the spot.

Also, I've trashed 23K+ posts (42% of the forum), largely due to the downsides of my lenience -- there was a period where I had absolutely no post quality restrictions and there were seriously too many posts made due to lack of post restrictions alone. There's also ~2K+ other posts that violated current restrictions but fell into loopholes in the past, the inclusion of archives as subforums of my hidden trash forum, and various other things in there. There are also quite a few among these -- It took months to clean it out and I'm still not sure if I've gotten all the low-quality Panda fodder out of my forum.

I'm just going by Ekunia because it's the primary forum where I've done things as staff -- most of the others have either just been so inactive I haven't had any mod actions or this one forum I don't feel like remembering due to drama.

Probably around 20-50. Most are spambots, some are troublemakers (i.e trolls). I don't really like giving out bans, but you gotta draw the line somewhere. ๐Ÿ˜›

Huh, how long have you been administrating forums? I've probably banned more spambots than that since my forum died last year.

Only about 3 bans. I don't ban spam accounts because I don't see a point in keeping them around, and I don't ban their addresses because they always use entirely different IP ranges. I just delete their accounts, but only a small handful manage to register each year anyway.

I think over the years I've probably only issued 20-50 bans.
