When you join a forum that allows advertising in a condition of having a "link back to our site rule"
Do you think this rule is beneficial for both forums or one of them or what?
I personally don't think this is a good idea, it might not 100% work, i mean, it can suck all members of the advertised forums to the link that was posted in the sake of having the advertising topic accepted.

I see where you got this from.

If someone is willing to advertise in your forum without a required number of posts or such. The forum is letting you advertise on their. I think is should been taken as a 'privilege' and in return, you could put the link of the main site somewhere on yours.

Did that make sense?

Advertise on a site > You post a topic/put a link somewhere on your site about the site you advertised on.

Saying that if a member advertises on your forum and his forum is better, then he could easily steal all of your members because any one of your members that visits his link is like, "Wow, this forum is a lot better."

So, is it worth it? No. I generally do not allow users to advertise their forums on my forum, because of that reason... especially if it's not a webmaster forum or something similar.

Yeah, it's not really worth it in most cases.

I allow advertising (where appropriate) on all my forums however, I tell them I expect to be able to do just the same advertising on their forum as well... If I can't, then they can't, that is fair.
