Some forums allow guests to view. Do you allow guests to post? I have the Affiliates section open for non-members to post. I don't require a membership to affiliate with me. I used to have a Guest Section where people could ask questions however it was overrun with spam.
What is your opinion on this topic?
Yes and no, not on all forums and boards. Get allot of guest spam though I know that and most of the time they needed to get approved and they get rejected as they are spam
When I had my forum I always had all the forums aside from one that would need you to register an account and verify your email address before you could post. The one forum that I had that had guest posting enabled was the forum where they could post if they had any issues with registration and that was heavily monitored for spam bots.
I allow guests like the above poster to view any content that has been posted. If the guest is wanting to contribute, they should register an account with a valid email address. I may consider offering the ability for guest posting in the future but if this was to be implemented I would need to manually approve and posts as webmasters will often run the risk of excessive spam from spambots. This is one of the biggest challenges us webmasters face.
I don't allow guests to post on my board as I see no need for it on a resource board. I don't want unregistered users coming along and spamming or trolling. I have a contact us form if they need help with anything outside of registration.
I've never allowed guest posting and never would as there's no need for me to enable it. Affiliation requests can be sent to me on any board I'm a member of and it's very likely if someone finds my board with the desire to affiliate, they found it from somewhere they and I are both members on already so they can always contact me on that site.
