For some reason, I get annoyed when guys post a hot girl as their avatar. I just think it's irrelevant unless the girl is holding up a sign with your name. For some reason, I just don't like it.

Thoughts?

I don't see why it's anyone's business as to what someone uses for their avatar as long as it follows the board's rules.

I don't really care, as long as it doesn't break any rules because its to revealing or something 😉

I don't see any problem with it, people should use avatars about something they like, whether it's a person, character, a game, show... etc..
I tend to use females as my avatar, but they are always video game and anime characters... never an actual woman.
I just find female characters more interesting than male characters usually.
It shouldn't really matter anyways, it's not like anyone's going on a date with them or something.

This is essentially the thought of most of the world.

Stuff like this does sometimes annoy me, but I generally don't have a problem with it. I feel people have a right to modify their profile the way they please as long as it follows the forum rules.

I only hate it when it changes their gender in my mind. If they have a pic of a girl, I think they are a girl. And Vise Versa.

No sexism intended, it is just the way I think and interpret things.

I personally don't mind it that much, as long as it is covering up the areas that should be covered I am ok with it. After all it is their avatar not mine.

Forenote - In this post I primarily talk of depictions of women. However this can (and does) happen to men too. It just varies a lot depending on the community.

Personally, this isn't an issue for me at all. I mean if someone wants an avatar of a woman (or a man) then they can provided it doesn't violate forum rules (like if their avatar is pornographic or excessively violent in nature).

I just think that if someone has an avatar of some woman that they must like her or something about her. (Like if she's a musician/singer they might like some of her songs. Or maybe they do just like how she looks. Or maybe they think she has an interesting personality. Or perhaps they look up to her because of what she's done or gone through.) Whatever their reason, I see no issue with it.
(Well... provided they aren't bordering on obsession with her and talking pretty much only about her then that gets kind of creepy. )

This I can agree with as well! As long as it doesn't offend me or what I believe in or show to much then I am fine.

Like the other users have said, I truly don't think it really matters what the users avatar is unless it gets a little too out of hand. Besides, who doesn't like to look at them? 😀

This makes no logical sense. Let's say I don't set my gender field and have a hot girl as my avatar. You probably wouldn't care, if I set my gender as female, you probably wouldn't care. So I change my gender field to male, and now you care...

What has changed? You're basing your whole thought process on a gender field which doesn't have to be true... (or unless you know for certain their gender)

I don't really care. I'm just happy it isn't pics of their genitals or something worse. There are some truly sick people out there, and that is all I'm saying..

If it offends you so bad, then just disable avatars or sigs in your profile settings or if you just want to disable that person's avatar and sig then I'm sure your browser would have that feature as well. It is usually used to block ads and ad images from showing up.

No point in sweating the small stuff..

NO problem with me. As long as the girls in the avatar are actually hot.

I think your sweating the small stuff OP.

It doesn't bother me, as I've seen people using anime and video game girls as their avatars. Real women? It irks me a bit, but that's just me.

An issue I see is, if you own a forum and you're married, well... this might make your spouse think that you are cheating on them.(But only if it's an avatar of a real woman)

I see nothing wrong with that. However if your forum wants to be family safe. This includes people under the age of 13 then I'd suggest disallowing it.

I do see your point, but as long as the images aren't too revealing or are inappropriate, then I don't see why they should be disallowed. For example, I think Harperboy326's avatar would be fine.

Yes that is fine but some images can be very close to been 18+

Yes, I do agree, I have seen some very dodgy images...
