Hey, Well first of all, this may sound crazy, but let them get on
'hacking' but find out how they got in and then block them.
When you block them, I mean change passwords and if you can,
record there IP address and then secure everything first.
Then restore backed up files and then just stay on guard.
This way you can be sure that if they try to get in again, you will
be able to stop them before damage is done.

If a hacker is already in your system there isn't gonna be much you can do about it. The first thing a hacker would do is to change the pass of the admin CP and remove all other accounts that have access to it. He would most likely IP ban you first also. He would remove all records of anything he has done to the site and most likely added his 'deface' page as your index and mess up the forum with the O so legendary 'hacked by bla bla bla' Further to protect himself he would have most defiantly used a proxy/VPN/Sock or other means to hide his real IP, including hacking into another internet connection to hack you.
There are also many ways to clog up the CP and server CP so you cannot enter the admin/server CP after the hack or will certainly slow you down by a lot as the server would have to correct it which normally takes 3 weeks to fix and any time on-top for them to make sure you are the owner and read the request.
There is not much you can do really, best thing to do if make sure your forum software is up to date as well as your plug-ins, make sure your password is hard to crack by brute forcers and are not on any MD5 databases. Fix all the coding so there is no way to enter, make sure the server you are on is well protected, your server CP is not buggy and that you don't give huge power to mods or other admins in-case they are doing a SE on you, hence Vbulletin is bad. 🙂
