Warning: This content is mostly for advanced forum owners, but if you are a beginner at running forums who feel that they could touch up your forum, continue reading.
The Variety (Sub-forums, etc.)
If you have members up and posting here and there, that's great. If not, try skipping to the next part. Anyway, you need some sub-forums in sections or else that section itself is worthless. Adding extra sections you don't need is NOT necessary and will make you look like a fool. There can be having too much sub-forums though, because if you put many sub-forums in one section including the section topic itself, you'll have to lock the section but keep the other sub-forums open, which for the most part would be kind of pathetic/stupid. It's also important to stay organized, this is important because right when your forum is starting to become a hit around the world you especially wouldn't to introduce your members to the forum with a flip-flop of announcements and sticky topics. It's staff's opinion how it is organized, as long as it is in shape your forum will look more professional in those areas.
Keeping active members active
Like I said, don't make too much change. First of all, keep the site advertised wherever you already had it advertised, but put it in your signature on every forum you sign up on, active or not, and this will be better on your forum if you're a nice person and people "happen" to stumble by for that reason. Like I said in the last part, keep adding stuff to motivate members, but again, not too much change. Members can get sick of the same old thing, but they don't want to see a brand new forum on the URL they've been going to for three years.
Keeping Quiet
If your staff, be nice and keep some things quiet. Also, make sure to have a Staff Chat forum and look over the forum daily to keep it healthy.
This is a stub, I know, keep the suggestions coming and if you haven't read the first one and you liked reading this, click here for a more beginner-ish, but more detailed important steps for taking care of your forum. Thank you for reading and have a nice day. 🙂
