Way back during the early days of the web there used to be a lot of forums and websites related to the game. Some were forums and sites dedicated to giving information about the latest games. They'd do guides, give tips, tricks, etc... So basically it was more than a forum then. Nowadays the only site left doing that is Ushi no Tane (Fogu)

So the series is actually Japanese. In Japan, it's called Bokujo Monogatari. Bokujo Monogatari is developed by Marvelous. It used to be localized overseas by Natsume, under the name Harvest Moon. Then Natsume broke off their deal from Marvelous, but kept the name "Harvest Moon" in the west. Natsume started making their own games under the name. So, the new games called Harvest Moon are actually just a new series by Natsume, unrelated to Marvelous' older Japanese ones. The new games in the Bokujo Monogatari series are now called Story of Seasons in the west.

Feel like explaining the context.

So I know like usual it'll be a hard sell to get users active on the forums and such. I personally don't think there's any need for a site anymore to basically make a guide to any of the games since the above site is usually the best source much like how people use Serebii for Pokemon. So just gonna give an example of what most of these sites did here or here. Now I am all for linking that site to give users a guide or an official means even. I just want a discussion forum like the old days.

Still brainstorming this.

UPDATE: Going to make a thread and/or a forum on Nipahchan for the series instead. Saves me $$$ etc.

Harvest moon use to be one of my favorite video games! I had it for the gamecube and the advance... good times!

I don't recall this game but it sounds interesting.
Forums are hard to do & more so when it's just one niche. Have you asked around, maybe friends, family, what their opinions are? Sometimes those closest to us can give us some great opinions.

Yes, forums have proven very hard to do nowadays. I have ran a forum like this in the past which had it's own roleplaying thing which did make it a biiit different. There were off-topic sections too like most forums back then on my own forum. Also I've not asked anyone yet, but for sure probably a good idea. My forum didn't last super long back then, but it was my most successful forum. I did a mass email on as I have access to the old forum on Tapatalk and only one person from then joined my Discord server and added me. Maybe will ask them their thoughts and such too.

Yep, a classic game series for sure.

If it were 10 years ago, I'd say it would be an excellent forum, but as ZandrJoi brought up, niches aren't doing so well these days as starters.

This was in 2009 and part of 2010. I do agree though with what everyone is saying so far. I'd feel better almost doing it on proboards or a free forum host than self hosting a forum nowadays? I am weird like that.

Just to let you know, if you start on Proboards, you won't be able to migrate over if you decide to do another platform. They do have a sister site, https://forums.net/ that allow it, however that one is Paid. I found this out recently.

My wife is a huge Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons fan so if you do end up making a community I'll let her know about it. 🙂 Either way like others have said it'll probably be difficult to get off the ground. Still if you're very passionate about it I say go for it!

That person said we could even just do a forum surrounding the entire genre of farm sim games. I'd even add dating sims and life sims too. Good idea for sure, may consider but am unsure.

With the number of Farming Simulators coming to the Switch, I think it would be a good community to have. 🙂
