I’m curious if anyone here has ever changed the name/brand of their forum or website after it was already established and active for a while.

What led you to make the change? Was it because of branding, niche changes, growth limitations, SEO concerns, or something else entirely?

I did but it wasn't active super long. It was only a couple of months.

Sonic Blast was originally named Sonic Zone but I found out later there was another massive forum of the same name. I didn't even know it existed. So I named it Sonic Zone Act II. Then shortly after I went with Sonic Blast to give it a more original name.

I haven't. I've kept the original name of my forum since I started it.

I did, I had a forum with just under 40k members. I had a 10 character long .co domain. I eventually found the initials for a 4 character .com so I went ahead and switched over to that 😀

I used to be staff on Sonic Zone but that was a very brief moment since I wasn't too active when I was staff lol. I didn't know the original name for Sonic Blast was Sonic Zone! Sonic Blast fits, even though it's also the name of a not so great 8-bit game. xD (It honestly sounds cooler than Sonic Zone anyways.)

The last community I was staff on was called Petalburg Woods when it finally closed down. When it first opened though, it was called The Pokemon World, but it changed to Petalburg Woods around July 2012.

All the other forums I've been staff on haven't changed their names, at least as far as I'm aware. All the forums I made myself, many moons ago, also never had name changes, though if I ever decided to bring them back from the grave, I probably would go with different names.

Nope, I have not, end up being a hussle to chnage name, logos and copyright and also the domain.

I think I remember Petalburg Woods, I never joined though. I think that's a better name than "The Pokemon World." Was it a Pokemon RP forum? Anyways I never renamed my communities, not that I can remember at least. I merged three together to form a new one (it's Thee Zone) but didn't keep the names of the previous forums since it wouldn't sound great lol.

My big online brand Hiking with Shawn used to be known as Bike Hike Blog. I decided to rebrand about 2 weeks into it and call it Hiking with Shawn instead. 10 years later, it's a local "household name" for many people which is pretty awesome. 🙂

I can't say that I've ever switched the name of anything I've owned.

My blog that I've had for over 7 years has remained the same name since I've started it.

And my forum that I've had for 3 weeks now.....I don't see the need to change the name at the moment.

I did advertise Petalburg Woods on here! I do agree it's a better name, can't remember why the name change came about though because it was so long ago (and may have even been before my time). It was more of a general Pokemon discussion forum, but there was an RPG that was hosted on there called the Ultra RPG that ended up being the main focus on the community and why a lot of people were there in the end. I think I'd started work on an RPG exclusive to the community but ended up dropping it before it was even finished.

I have renamed my mental health forum multiple times, until I settled with the current name.
