The news outlets don't seem to be objective in their reporting anymore. Do you agree that they're mostly for entertainment now and not for too much factual news since their opinion is always attached to what they report?
I honestly don’t even watch the news anymore unless it pops up on my for you page on TikTok. I agree that its mainly entertainment now because reporters have their own opinions. People will watch the news they want to watch if they agree with the reporters opinions on the matter.
Now a days the news isn't always airing facts. A lot of it is political remarks or interviews that are so un- interesting that you're compelled to change the channel.
At one time I might have argued against that but recent events have unfortunately proved otherwise.
News outlets in the UK are becoming as polarized as they are in the US. In addition they now give high priority to low value content often associated with exploitative, reality TV programmes.
In recent times I get my news from the left, the right and the completely insane with a view to finding some middle ground but it gets harder by the day.
What I do find extremely sad is my daughter's generation ignore the news completely. We were having a conversation today about a current news item detailing how she's being robbed by her student loan repayments. Her response was it's only your generation that are mad about it, we all know everyone is out to rob us, we just ignore it...
I think pretty much all the big news outlets are biased. Doesn't matter if it's CNN, or Fox News they report things that their viewers want to hear and push their narratives rather than reporting the actual news. Also @John is 100% spot on with his response.
There is so much bias in news reportage these days such that it can't be concealed any longer. The problem is that news agencies and outlets start taking positons on topical issues instead of staying neutral.
I do think a lot of news outlets today focus more on entertainment and opinions rather than just reporting facts. It often feels like stories are presented with a certain viewpoint attached instead of letting people make up their own minds. While factual news still exists, it can sometimes be harder to separate unbiased reporting from opinion or sensationalism.
I watch it each night even if half of it is depressing. I watch one channels version in the weekend and one in the week as the one in the week only has a half an hour slot in the weekend and it's mostly sports.
In my own opinion, is that things changed during the beginning when the advantage of the 24-hour news came to be. There wasn't much info to fill an entire 24-hour block, so things had to be fluffed up a bit for the ratings. News isn't for the showing of the related news reports to the public, but more so in bringing in more and more ad revenue and gaining the market share of their investors.
Most news channels are biased in their reporting. That's why many people no longer rate news channels that used to be highly respected before. With that, news nowadays don't hold much water.
This isn't a new thing, it's just that they are more blatant about it. Look at operation mockingbird from the 1950-60s by the CIA. They were using it back then to manipulate.
I watch news now but only by independent journalists and even then very rarely.
At least in the USA, my country, we have options between biased networks. In the former Soviet Union, for instance, there was only one viewpoint expressed on whatever news you watched or read.
