has your forum ever been hacked?

NBA Boards got hacked a couple of years agp. They didn't do much before the main admin got the account back, but the guy kept trying. He cracked like 15 accounts. He was able to do it because of a flaw in the IPB version the site was running.

Our boards resident village idiot actually was able to get info on the guy and the guy who was doing it was a professor at Martha Washington College and we turned him in. We heard he got fired.

A college professor hacked your guys' forum? Wow. Kids and teens hacking sites is one thing but someone who is actually capable of knowing right from wrong and who knows better at all is just downright insane.

Actually a lot of hackers are adults. The script kiddies just ruin forums. This guy knew what he was doing and eventually took down like 100 different forums.

My forum has never been hacked, but popular sites have a better chance to have that happen.

Any forum can be hacked. It doesn't matter how popular it is or how active it is. Practically any forum, regardless of it's status, can be vulnerable to being hacked.
It could even depend on the person running it, but I could doubt that's not even the whole reason why somebody would hack a forum in the first place.

I have never had a forum.
But my friend had one that was hacked.
By Team Hacker of Iraq.

There's lots of things that can come into play with this: Outdated versions of forum software seems to be the biggest one from what I can gather. And sometimes people hack if they have a grudge against someone else as well. So they think that by hacking someone they hate, they'll earn personal gain and the person being hacked will be left with nothing. Well, that's what I think of it, really. But otherwise, it doesn't matter how popular your site is, how popular you are even, any site by any forum owner is vulnerable to hacking attempts and successes.

My old forum named "One More Chance to Wish" was hacked back when I ran it in 2006.
The hacker logged into the other admin's account and deleted all of the boards; all of the topics were still there, but in one section. The theme was also deleted, so it just looked like a blank screen with text.
At first I was going to fix it all up and start it again, but I never did.
It has a new theme and boards, but I never fixed it correctly and moved on.

Once one of my forums hit by a SQL injection if that counts. That's when I had it at Godaddy hosting and bunch of their servers were infected. I had a hard time getting my Data base cleaned.

My forum has never been hacked. I take great pride in the security I enforce on my server.
