I have to say Helena and Cory really outdid themselves on the theme(Gothesque) that you chose as it is perfect for this forum. you could have sworn it was custom made for it because I honestly don't think you could have picked a better theme for it as it really captures the essence of a haunted mansion. The other themes are nice as well but that is my personal favorite out of the four. Good luck with the forum as I hope it works out well for you as it looks like it has real potential.

First Impressions:
My first impressions of Haunted Mansion were fairly solid. There’s nothing ‘wrong’ with the header of your forum; in fact, it’s fairly impressive. High-quality dark themes are quickly becoming unobtainable, and it’s great to see that you’re keeping them alive.


My only true ‘gripe’ is how large your header is. While it does look very, very good, it still takes multiple scrolls to get to any content. Do keep in mind that recent studies have indicated that users obtain a positive/negative view of your website within 30 seconds of viewing it. While such a pretty header looks fairly attractive to some (I personally love it), I would try to make the main purpose of your forum more clear at first sight. Have you considered adding a tagline to your logo? It doesn’t have to be anything long; just try for something catchy. Something like “Horror like you’ve never discussed before!” could work. All you’re looking for is something that gives an instant impression of what your forum is about when a user first visits your forum.

Design Quality:
Beautiful! This is one of the better Zetaboards themes that I’ve ever seen. The dark colors blend together wonderfully. Moving down: Your theme sticks together pretty well; there aren’t any breaks in the design or coloration errors in the CSS. I also really like how you choose to use boards icons. Those really bring some personality to your theme, and can help distinguish the different areas of the forum. Sorry, this is short, but I really don’t have much to say here!

Originality:
The horror genre is tough. It’s pretty rare to see a horror forum have much longevity nowadays; since most horror fans tend to flock on TV show forums as opposed to general horror forums. With that being said, I do feel like you can succeed; if you stick with it. The horror genre is literally wide open. Most genre specific forums like this don’t stick around long because forum owners aren’t committed enough to keep them moving. I know that you’re an ultra-committed person, and I really do think this project can (and will) succeed if you’re willing to stick with it long term.


Moving on: I just don’t see much in the way of discussions that I can’t find on another forum, if you know what I mean. Have you thought about adding a way for members to communicate quicker? I can’t tell you the exact date, but have you thought about adding a chat box for when The Walking Dead season eight premieres? That would allow members to communicate quickly with each other, and would give you something new that no one else that I’ve seen has. The Walking Dead is the literal face of horror right now, so I'm sure that you could find some people that would be interested in doing something like that.

Anyway - I really do like the start you’ve made on Haunted Mansion. It has a great theme, and the rest of the forum has been built on a solid foundation. As I have already said, I really do feel like this forum can succeed if you’re willing to stick with it. Best of luck with the forum!

@John Regarding the chatbox that you mentioned, the only reason that I haven't added one yet is because my forum is still kind of new and I didn't want the chatbox to take away any discussions from taking place on the forum. So, I thought that if I was going to add the chatbox then I would wait until I got a certain amount of content built up on the forum first. Do you think that adding a chatbox at this point in time would hurt the forum in any way?
 
@Grimalkin I personally don't think it would have any effect of content that is made, it could possibly open new content and get more signups because you made the forum open to real life time discussions. People could also promote their content in the shout box.

There is a code that allows for posts made in the ZetaBoards built-in shoutbox to be placed into a thread, which would allow you to utilise it without detracting from an actual thread. For example, users who want a fast way to respond to a hot thread could use the shoutbox, while others continue to use your board as normal. I used it on my board one time for E3, and I've seen other boards use it for their general chat threads.

I personally agree with what @Vaador said. If you personally think that it could, you could always keep it hidden/closed unless you had a special event running.

I think you need a domain name redirected to zetaboards and it would be really good. I also disagree that you need a chatbox/shoutbox. I feel like those prevent actual posts being made. I understand the whole "real time discussions" but when a forum is just starting out you shouldn't have something that will detract from posts being made on the forum. The theme is really good and overall I like your site. 🙂
