Have You Changed Your Forum Name?

HAVE YOU CHANGED YOUR NAME ON A FORUM?

I am debating whether to change my name on forums, I have been known as strike for a long time and now that I am publishing my design work people are starting to know me as Jack. which raises a question for me. Should I change my name to Jack for the forum?

The benefits of having a new name is that you can literally start again, what I mean is that if you have a bad rep on another forum for example, having a different name on here would not connect you to them from a user perspective.

I have been debating names for the past few weeks and I just don't know what I should be.

STRIKE

Strike is a cool name, and one that is properly suited to me, but I feel it is time to go with my real name... Jack

I was wanting to be known as dax as I have found short names look really cool on the forum, @Gio @Taz etc...

And Jack my real name, if you follow my designs you will see that I use my real name, so why am I known as something different on here?

Go ahead and change it if that's what you want to do. We'll all know who you are, you could put "Formerly Strike" as your custom user title or in your signature for a few weeks too if you want to help people make the connection. I think you're overthinking the situation a tad bit. Nobody expects you to be handcuffed to one username for the rest of your life.

Go ahead and change it if that's what you want to do. I don't like people changing there profile name 100s of times as it gets confessed on who is who. I had an bad rep from the passed from an website that's bigger then FP and till this day I'm still an member on that site using the same profile name 🙂

everyone is different, I will keep with the same name allover where others don't they have different names.

Just be yourself 🙂 and pick an name and that's the end of the sexy story

I did, I was DeeJay but just thought I'd have my actual name. Considering I have my personal blog and it's jut my name. Easier and makes sense I think.

I think it is fine to change your name during your early design career but once you have build a brand and reputation online, then don't change it as people already know you for that name. The important thing is to have a short and catchy name and if you feel like changing it will be more beneficial, then do it.

Actually there was a topic here on FP about a year or two ago where some didn't want Staff to be able to change usernames, and if they did, that they should be required to put in their signature who they used to be. 😛

I remember that! I actually liked the idea as even I felt it was hard to identify who was who. The worst thing is when they change both their name and avatar and you have to look at their posts to guess who they are. 😛

Yep! I actually was just too lazy to change it back from Kronos a few months ago, and I just changed it to "John" because I assumed that it wouldn't confuse anyone.

I was split on having my real name, on the one hand it would make perfect sense, and on the other I like to keep my name out of any problems. with a username people wont really know your real name unless you have them on skype so I thought that would be best. I was Really thinking of haveing it just my name...
