Have you ever self banned yourself from a forum? Have you ever gone through extreme lengths to not go back to a community?

Like for example, changing your password to something you know you will forget and also changing your email address to a disposable one that will delete in a day or so?

lol yes. Although I vaguely remember it. It was sometime back when InvisionFree was a thing. I didn't exactly ban myself, but locked my account out of the ACP with no way of fixing it. Wasn't a huge loss iirc but had to start over on a new board. Restorations weren't possible at the time. Very early InvisionFree days.

Yeah.

When I get irritated enough to leave a forum. I change my password to random ones and change to a fake email address.

I remove everything from my profile.

It takes a lot to make me do that.

Nowadays, I usually lurk as a guest to see if the overall forum attitude is going to be worst dealing with or not.

I've never done this myself, when I go to test out new features I just make a dummy account so I don't mess up my own account. I have forgot to change the permissions for the admin group on software like phpBB and wondered why I couldn't post in a section though lol.

I very rarely leave a forum but on the odd occasion I do, I just log out, remove it from my favourites list and never go back. I think the only forum I've left in the last decade was The Admin Zone which died when the owner sold out to Verticalpoop.

I've never done this myself. I have a test board set up that I test any changes to the original forum on. The test board has different login/account information.

I think it died when The Sandman exited, personally.

You are right, it did. The new owner, Threadloom was quickly gobbled up by Verticalscope. I'm not sure of the timing because even as staff, admin in my case, we were never told a thing.

Didn't know you retired.

TAZ is still a good source for traffic though. Shame it's nothing more.

I'm still awaiting my account to be approved by an admin for about a week now. Says enough.

I decided to walk quietly away, I've never been one for drama.

I think all but possibly one staff member had been demoted when I left so there's probably no one around to approve your account unfortunately.

It’s okay. Not a big deal. I had an account before but got banned for promoting AJ on TAZ. Didn’t read the rules that competition was not allowed, so that’s on me.

It actually did. It was flourishing when he was around. It’s nothing but a ghost town now. It’s sad to see. I learned a lot from TAZ, and I’ll forever be grateful for that. I don’t know where I’d be as a community owner if it wasn’t for their community in the early and mid 2000s (2006-2016).

Deleted my accounts not banning them ;P

Maybe ban my twin account ;P

Well, this has not happened to myself but I once mistakenly banned active user on my site.

I've not done this at all. I try to stay on forums that I join as that is one of the ways that I get to interact and make friends. If the forum is becoming a toxic place, I may end up staying silent for a while until situations become normal.

Self-banning? Never heard of that term before... but I have left forums which then leads to me wiping all history to do with it and even down to wiping my log-in info as well.

I have never banned myself from a forum. I've definitely heard of others doing it, especially back in the olden days of the forum world. With 2FA playing such a major role nowadays, it would be even easier to "ban yourself" now. You might even do it accidentally.

This is what I do as well.. when I had a forum, I would also delete my sites link from my signature

I never left it, but I sadly watch it continue to die. I was one of the top posters there at one time.
