Have you ever regretted promoting a member as a mod?

Have you?

I have at least twice in the whole history that I've been among staff and when I owned my own forum. It's easy to misjudge and overestimate someone as a person and what they're capable of.

I know this one guy came off really nice, but turns out he was a major troll going around spamming up forums with negative remarks and getting banned. As soon the owner got wind of it, he was demoted effective immediately. Sure thought and debate went into why he needed to be demoted and how he might have been a threat. I felt pretty stupid for jumping the gun though. But my fellow staff assured me it wasn't my fault.

Has this ever happened to you?

Yeppers. They were SUPER awesome the first few months and then it's like they became possessed. He was a super awesome moderator when he wasn't busy trolling, harassing, and scamming people. =P As soon as I actually found out about what was happening, we IP banned him and reported the scamming, never heard from him again. =P

Yeah, it sucks when a long time person goes rogue especially when you thought they were going to be an awesome moderator. 😛

Yeah I've had high hopes for certain people & they didn't work out. Disappointing, but life goes on.

Once, yes. At first she did pretty good, but then she started to cause issues, despite being a super mod. Those issues were resolved but then an ever bigger incident happened. It was for the best that she was demoted back to regular member. As a result, she had left shortly afterwards. 😛

Honestly, cannot say that I have. Simply, I usually promote people I know. If I don't know someone, they start off on probation with less powers than their position would usually get. Once they prove themselves, they'll get all the appropriate abilities. Probation is usually about 30 days.
