The server speed also has to do with how they're utilized - since Host Gator pushes purely unlimited only they're more likely to have more issues as the crowd it draws is typically a bit more "liberal" with their resource usage.
Host Gator has all support staff in-house as do we. We don't have the same amount of staff so some inquiries to sales or billing may only be handled during normal business hours (9AM-5PM EST) however when it comes to support we both have staff available.
The biggest difference between Host Gator and Hawk Host are the following:
- Host Gator is significantly larger than us
- Host Gator targets the unlimited market / crowd
- Host Gator has active watch dogs that suspend / disable accounts if resource utilization gets "wonky". It's been known to be a bit trigger happy. At Hawk Host we're a bit more liberal with our machines and don't mind an occasional flux of resource utilization. For all intents and purposes we're more lax when it comes to resources.
- Host Gator charges $10 to install a SSL certificate (even though it's a few clicks)
- Host Gators affiliate system is far superior (payout / rates)
- Hawk Host occasionally browses this forum (okay cheating a bit..)
Either way choose the provider you're comfortable with / that suits your needs. As far as I'm concerned when it comes to day-to-day business operations we're both very similar.
