So my laptop is running Ubuntu 12.04 and I am having trouble re-formatting It to ntfs, so that I can re-install WIN7 any help?

Just stick in your Windows disk and tell it to install over anything that's on the drive. Done.

First you need to delete the Ubuntu partitions, Thats what i had to do, THen format the windows drives and install.

You do not need to do that. The Windows installer comes with a *very basic, but still useful* partitioning software. When it asks you to choose the drive to install on, delete the partition so there is only the disk, then select the disk, then press install. It REALLY is not that hard.

Yeah both Jake and Dennis got it on the nail of the head. Load up Windows with the installation disk. You may have to load up the BIOS to change the way the computer looks for the boot root, HDD or disk or USB. Then, re-boot the computer and try it again. The computer should boot from the primary boot location that you told it to and installation should be a breeze after that. Then, follow Jakes and Dennis posts 🙂

The first 2 or 3 partitions should be the ones you want to keep depending on the make of pc.

Its its Samsung it should be the first 3. The first will be the Samsung recovery partition and the other two C and D.

^ That's if it's a stock HDD and came with those partitions.

Well im installing from a usb, it all goes fine until the point it says it needs to be in ntfs and the option to format it at that point is blank.

Parted Magic : http://partedmagic.com/ can be used to partition, and format a hard drive to most file systems.

I think you can install Parted Magic onto a CD with the ISO file, but you need to use a program called UnetBootin to make a bootable USB drive for Parted Magic, and you may need to set the USB drive to active, so it is bootable.
