Does it matter if you buy a high end one or use a cheap one?

Gold or silver? Does either perform better?


I've found that an HDMI cable is an HDMI cable, spending more for a gold one wont make much of a difference. I do have gold, high speed cables and the picture/sound quality feels the same. It might be barely better but not enough to notice any difference at all. What do you think?

Gold-plated HDMI cables are of a higher grade, and they are better and have larger conductors. They boast better shielding and are even more durable than regular HDMI cables. It is also true that gold-plated ends will not have the oxidation that may be found in regular HDMI cables. Plus HDMI only can do a max of around 60hz where DIsplay ports can do over 200hz

What do you want to connect to? TV..? if so HDMI is perfect 🙂 Or a normal everyday 60z Monoiter then HDMI 🙂

I'm an audiophile (still legal in most countries 😀) so I'm a little OCD over wired connections whether it be for sound or vision. I agree with @Page. While gold and silver are both decent conductors, gold is far more resistant to oxidation or corrosion so you should always go for gold plated connections. The difference in cost is negligible but the long term gain makes gold connectors win every time.

I've never taken the differences between HDMI cords seriously. 😛

I've always used the cheapest possible cords. Most of mine are free ones that have come with purchasing different devices over the years.

I honestly didn't know there was much of a difference in performance :V I just use the HDMI cables that my video game consoles came with for everything really.

Wouldnt have to worry about that unless you have an outdoor TV.

In reality, no difference but the cheaper ones often wear out quickly. One of my cheaper one had a lot of issues like connector got broken very quickly.
Output wise no difference. It's just the parts that cheat on you.

I think you get a longer lasting one out of gold-plated hdmi cables, but the only thing that is starting to matter if it's HDMI 2.0 or HDMI 2.1

As long as you don't care about 8k or higher resolution (which is what 2.1 is for), then you will be fine with any HDMI cord. Just make sure you don't spend more than $15 for one, or you're getting ripped off.

Im on older tech too on my monitors i use DVI though they are converted from HDMI to DVI - monitors not broken so no need for changing them just yet 😀 will do in future

I work someplace that I fight to make either vga, dvi, DisplayPort or hdmi work, such a pain.
