Hell Banning, or something also known as Mod Queue 2.0 or Shadow Banning, is where you "ban" someone and their posts are only visible to them and is not open to a mod queue. So basically you would be posting your posts just like normal however no one would see it.

I don't know many softwares that don't have this as a feature, however some have had it as plugins. Is this something you would use if it was offered to you as an admin, or would you rather prefer to stick to the moderation queue?

I didn't know it has a name! Thanks for the new knowledge!

I think it'd be useful for annoying spammers that keeps coming back with a new account to wreck havoc on your site. Until they realize that they can't be heard, they won't make any trouble for you, which means less work and more stuff to laugh at for the mods. I don't think it should be used for all cases, though.

I have gotten a kick out of many cases where I hell banned someone, eventually the kid caught onto what was happening and started spamming and talking to himself, so we ended up putting banning him for a week at that time. The funny thing was, we got most of his spam deleted but there was still a conversation where he was talking to himself that we had forgot to delete, and once we took him off the ban everyone saw the thread and joined in the spam.

For some reason reading this makes me remember about Augustus Waters' lines in The Fault in Our Stars about "shouting into the void" He's so adorable for starting a conversation with himself, maybe he's actually really kind and just want to give the mods a show to enjoy!
Truthfully if I ever do use Hell Banning, I'd use it more for the laughs instead of the anti-spammer capabilities.

I've never hell banned someone, but I've always liked the concept. 😛 It's a shame that forum software doesn't typically support this.

Never heard of this to be honest. Personally I would much rather put them on a moderation queue so that I can see what their posts are before them going public. Avoids confusion and any problems that way

I've never done this. However, I really want to. The idea and concept just seem hilarious to the member who was just hell banned. 😛

I was gonna do this to a really irritating human spammer with a VPN, but he left before I could. Oh well. 😀

With Hell Banning, you can still see their posts and delete them before they go public, just don't take them off the list before you're done. xD

I've never heard of this. Seems funny but I'd assume staff members would still be seeing / reading the posts and (as a staff member) I'd just want them gone, if they did something bad enough to deserve a ban.
