I think it's because things like that feels like a looming obligation. Normally, you would have no issue with doing it. Sometimes you may even do it on your own for sheer enjoyment without prompt. But feeling forced to do it just doesn't sit right and kills the motivation.

I think that's the best explanation. And the fact that there's exam makes studying an annoying thing, IMO.
