Hello, need your advice!

Hi all, I hope this is the right site. I'll keep it simple:

1. Been around forums for a long time.
2. I have a unique job that doesn't really have a dedicated forum yet, so I made one
3. While I know other folks who do what I do and there are forums that have subsections for this work, I feel like if I go around messaging everyone about my forum, I might tick people off or spread a bad name.

Having this in mind, do you have any advice for me to get some members on my forum? I private messaged some folks I knew online who are interested in what I am, but that's only 3 folks. I also work remotely so I dont even have the ability to spread it around the office, for example.

A huge communication for my industry is twitter, but again, Im afraid of being viewed as a spammer... You know those pesky ppl who only message you when they want something. Any advice would be appreciated. I dont have any ads so Im not trying to sell a thing.

It appears as though you've come to the right place as you're more than welcome to advertise your forum here for starters. As for messaging people about your forum, whether through Twitter, Facebook, or wherever, I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to do as you're simply informing them of something new. Whether they decide to join is another thing, but simply getting the word out should never be considered a bad thing, nor should you feel guilty about spreading the word on something you've put time and effort into. As long as you don't continue to send them private messages or constant reminders I don't think most people will mind, but those are just my two cents.

Too much of anything will definitely considered as spam. Therefore it is good to make things more simple and promote it at regular intervals to a vast network. Spread your promotion over various new blogs and forums to gain traffic. BTW Forumpromotion is one of the best place to promote your forum.

Welcome! Some of above posts have good recommendations. I also agree with them. Spreading words about your project is not necessarily bad, as long as you don't do it too often to be viewed as nagging. Use the other resources you have in hand as well, be it social media or places like Forum Promotion to introduce people to your business.
