Hi,

I was wondering what your opinions would be on a help and advice forum for kids and teens in school. The idea being they can talk about problems in school, and seek advice on homework, exams, topics etc.

I wouldn't want to go down the puberty route like some other forums are on the internet, but a general "let us help you out" site.

Thoughts, would it be a more successful site than a standard General discussion one?

Seems like a nice idea but not a lot of teens go on forums for homework help 😛

I think you'd be surprised...

I just need to find a way to get the word out about it.

UPDATE: A decision was made after the admin found no cyberbullying forums on the front page of google to focus on this.

It is a huge change for us, and we would love to see any support

I honestly think it is a great idea. It gives the members a place to vent, talk, and seek help from older peers. It's sort of like a boys and girls club, but in forum form. Covering topics from advice to even discussing topics such as cyberbullying as you stated would be nice to see. Have you started thinking about creating a forum based around this idea yet? And to promote the forums, you could always make a Facebook page to help spread the word about your new help and advice forum. Even business cards could help you promote your site in real life.

Kids and teens can have some serious issues. Drug abuse, depression, suicidal thoughts, etc. How are you prepared to help people dealing with those issues turning to your forum for help?

Thats the idea.

I think making a FB page will be good, especially with the amount of teens that have facebook at the mometn

A: I think just someone saying smile be happy, and trying to talk them through stuff will help. There are already forums that do this and are successful
B: Stuff like that is not going to be our primary focus, but I do have a friend whos parents love technolgy and one of whom is a doctor who helps teens with issues like, so he may sign up to give slightly more professional advice

Telling someone to smile and be happy? That is not going to help anyone dealing with serious issues. Also you need to be careful when you "talk them through stuff" because saying the wrong thing could send someone over the edge.

Hopefully you can recruit that doctor to help on your forum.

That will not be our primary focus, but it has been done before and can be very successful

Do you have a passion for helping people, or do you just want a successful forum? What made you want to start up this kind of forum?

Passion. I want to help people who need it and people seem to share issues more on the internet and so we can try to help
