Hi there not sure of this is the right thread here but I have problem with spammers. This was with a old forum I had which I don't have no more as it really annoyed me as they ruined my last forum. This time there not going to do it that easy. Well I hope not lol See am good with computers and spam and things but I am not sure with MyBB as am using that with my New forum which I want to be a success. Let me explain the problem I had with other forum which I was gutted to let it go.
I had members from like russia or where ever they was from posting things like sdfdgnsdv like that and a load of links . Is there anything I can use on myBB to prevent this.

I reported this topic of yours so it can be moved to the right section of FP.

With mybb you have the option in ACP to add v2recaptcha which will help you out a lot with spammers. You also have some settings for spam control.

Ok thankyou , Sorry for posting in the wrong section. I will take a look at my settings now thank you.

I've moved this thread to a more appropriate section of the forum.

Like Vaador mentioned, usually there is a way to add some form of captcha to the registration process.

Yeah ive done that all now. Thanks soo much , I just don't want this forum to go the way my last one went . Hate spammers , thanks again. Great forum this is and fast responese 🙂

Recently, I've had some issues with spammers as well. Since they were using a lot of different IPs, I just opted to ban their extension. I put a ban on *.pl, *.xyz and *.eu Obviously I wouldn't do this with a .com or other important extension. XD

If you find that a large number of spammers are using emails from an obscure source, you can ban the source like I have.

I do feel sorry for any genuine member that might try to use those domain extensions, but I also know that it's highly unlikely that I'll get users from Poland, or users with an .xyz email address. It's really annoying because I know that the ones signing up to the forum are being initialised by humans bypassing the anti-spam features. You just gotta do whatever is necessary to keep them out of your site.

Thanks for the reply and yeah it is very annoying I had a really good forum last time which they destroyed. it was a walking dead forum. I just checked your site looks good I might join it as Techboy

I agree with @Vaador with the captcha which is a neat way of preventing spammers to post. However, captcha is a turn off to some users. I, for one, had left one forum that employs a captcha which I had to answer whenever I would post. There are captcha puzzles that are hard to determine when using the smart phone (especially when the screen is small). What they do in some forum that I know is to block/ban the IP of the spammer. And although the spammer will use another IP address, it will be like a game of hide-and-seek between the spammer and the mods and eventually the spammer would run out of IP addresses to use.

@Corzhens you're absolutely right. Captchas on posts are really terrible idea since they are annoying for the genuine members. I would leave a forum if they did that too. A captcha for signing up is probably a necessary evil though. XD

Does myBB have any sort of Akismet or StopForumSpam plugins? I use both of those services in addition to Google's Recaptcha as was previously mentioned in the thread.
