This is all it took to win our hearts. Summer looked right into our eyes and was telling us "I am the one. Pick me". Without hesitation, we chose Summer. She was on the urgent list and had a limited time before being put down so the shelter would have room for more dogs coming in. We adopted her from York County Animal Shelter.
Unfortunately, Summer has been tested positive for heartworms. I have researched a good deal on this disease and it is costly in order to have the "cure" instead of the monthly treatment that slows the disease down.
The cure is a series of injections of an arsenic type medication that kills the adult worms in the heart. In order to get the right dosage and amount of injections needed for Summer; blood work along with other x-rays and antibiotics are needed.
