I'm desperate to give my forum it's own domain name (which is proposed to be rxcomm.com) and one of the members in the forum is up for hosting it with his server. What I don't understand is that even though this person will host the forum, he expects me to pay for it (as I thought he'd pay it since he is the one that hosts it, not me). The price is $15 (Canadian) which is roughly £7.88 but I wouldn't know how to pay for anything that's not in my currency.

Now to ask... does anyone know a site where I can sign up for a .com domain and that I can pay it in pounds? I'd think I'd get my own server to get the forum hosted on also but I might be wrong.

If anyone can help me with this, I'd really appreciate it 🙂

Normally you can pay that with Paypal. Paypal does the currency conversion automatically.
However for 15 CD you can get your own webhosting plan at a hosting provider of your choice.

In Google I found this for you: http://www.wiserhosting.com/. Search Term: UK + "good hosts"
It looks good to me, however I would in your place compare a view hosting companies and read their testimonial online.

Thanks for the link, although I'm not sure where I can start in it. On another note, I found out that the domain I want is taken but good thing it expires in four days.

Yep I can confirm that: Expiry Date: 06/30/09, Registrar: "Rebel.com".

In this case you have to start with a domain snapping service such as:
Snapnames.com or Enom.com or Pool.com
I'll explain now shortly what they're doing:

They use a network of registrars to hit the Verisign servers at frequent intervals (but not too frequent to get banned) and snatch as many requested names as possible. If you don’t get your name, you don’t pay.

I would recommend you to learn from This Article found in Google how to snatch a busy but soon expiring domain name.

I hope this helps you a bit. 🙂

Okay, I've went on the site today to register for the domain, this time being rx-community.com. However, this process has been halted as I need my mum's credit card (which is actually shared by me and her) but she can't give me it because she needs to check how much money there is on it. Once she finds out, I'll pay for the domain which will be £7 (for a domain lasting one year) or maybe £15 for two years.

And another thing, I'm quite uncertain about my forum being hosted on a different server. I mean, most other ZetaBoards forums have their own domain names and are still on the ZB server. So is it okay for any ZB server to be hosted on a different server? I'm only asking that in case that the new server screws up the forum or something.

Hey Crash,

that's right you may map your own domain name to a ZetaBoard.
You have to specify a domain name server or you just redirect the domain name on the ZetaBoard url with cloaking. But the better way is the setup with a name server (requires a zonemap file).

You actually can't host a ZetaBoard on another server (with another hosting company) unless they do support the ZetaBoard database format. You have to stick with the ZetaBoard, because there still doesn't exist a database conversion to vBulletin e.g.
ZetaBoards are hosted by a free forum software provider like Invisionfree. ZetaBoard is the only popular hoster of that type of board for now.
More information you'll find also in this topic from Google:
ZetaBoard converting

Ah, okay then. Besides, WiserHosting didn't really mention about your site being hosted on their server anyway. Thanks for all your help so far 🙂

Sorry to bump this but... I have registered the domain name which is rx-community.com and I've already encountered problems that I don't have the brains of fixing...

The first one is that my domain is "inactive" and I don't know how to make it active. Secondly when adding it to the Domain Manager of the Admin CP, I get this message:
Error: The domain you have entered (rx-community.com) does not appear to point to this server. The domain should point to s1.zetaboards.com with a CNAME record.
Now how am I supposed to make it point to the Zetaboards server? I need more help on this issue 🙁
