Hey everyone,
I've been into web sites for a while but for some reason I just can't get the nack for getting onto google

I have one of the only dedicated racing sim forums around and it has a good url thats quite catchy "pole position driver"

I have included my meta tags but I must be doing something wrong.
There are 2000 pages linking to www.polepositiondriver.com now

<title>Pole Position Driver - Racing Simulators Forum :: Index</title>

<meta name="keywords" content="car racing, car games, forum, yabb, live for speed, need for speed, live for speed S2, car forum, grand prix legends, computer hardware, upgrades, computer games, xbox, xbox 360, pure gaming, consoles, forza 2, underground, grand prix 4, overclocking"/>

<meta name="description" content="Our site is dedicated to racing sims, you can download rFactor skins, discuss racing sims such as rfactor, live for speed and burnout paradise and even discuss overclocking and hardware upgrades in the Hardware section"/>

Try using less keywords, maybe about 6 or 7 at the very most instead of all those. Also, put two or three keywords in the <title> tag.

Search engines aren't all about META tags though, remember to use the same keywords in the Forum titles and descriptions.

Finally submit your site to the Google Crawl just to make sure it's being indexed http://google.co.uk/addurl

Remember that some sites take longer than others to get ranked by Google, and some don't get ranked at all so it's really a matter of patience / luck.

META tags mean nothing when you don't have good content. Be sure to have a high concentration of the keywords you want to rank for. And as Murder he Wrote said, you need to cut down on the number of keywords. Only use keywords that are dense on your page otherwise you can hurt your ranking.

You may also want to read this blog post: SEO is Dead. Instead of concentrating all your work on SEO, take advantage of social networks like Digg, StumbleUpon, del.icio.us.

The major search engines don't really look at META tags anymore, since people abuse the hell out of them.

Also, mod_rewrites to make php pages into static looking html files is good, but really isn't needed as search engines can index php files with query strings just as good as static html [example being Digital Point forums].

Thank you to all of you.
That was really helpful.

Its a tricky industry to get your mind around but its one of the most rewarding!
