Hey everyone, I launched my forum in my signature about a week ago.
It took weeks to fix the theme and images, and it is laid out perfectly but it doesnt seem to get any members, help!
Its not that your skin is ugly. It just not that up to it. Im thinking you tried to replicate the unbuntu forum? You might also want to get a different logo.
Never expect a rush of members just after a launch. No site went from 0 to 9,000 members in a week, just doesn't happen. Most sites grow slowly, remember that Forum Promotion had to work for it's members just the same as you have to work for yours.
There could be several things that cause you not to get members. First, are you getting guest traffic? Without some traffic you can't get members. If this is the issue then it's the first thing to work on.
Getting decent traffic but still few members? Get a review here on FP, and see what they they think needs to be changed to help you get more members. They know their stuff ;-)
I won't agree with Oliver, I think your forum genre is fine. However, it is one that gets a select group of people. Try making yourself different from other Linux Communities. Offering custom stuff is often a great way. Make themed wallpapers with your url on them, make custom system skins, ect.
I don't agree... I can see what you are saying but it takes a few mistakes and a few bad forums to make a good admin. I made a few forums that failed badly before i made this forum. People need to make forums and for them to deal with problems to make them better so they can run a forum properly and make it successful. 90% of people shouldn't at the moment but soon with a bit more time, those 90% will have the experience and knowledge to run a forum properly.
