Hi everyone,
I do believe this is the shortest period of time I have spent lurking a forum before joining. I spent a couple of hours looking around, enjoying some good reads, did some learning and liked what I seen. This appears to be the most well put together forum of it's kind with a really good group of diverse people collaborating together that I have had the pleasure of visiting to date.
A little about me. I live on Vancouver Island in British Columbia Canada with the woman of my dreams and a wonderful Step Daughter I love as my own....feel very fortunate to call this home, it is beautiful here.
I have always been really good with computers but before digging deep into them as a career I spent many years in heavy construction operating the giant machines you see on the discovery channel. Although I loved the work it is no life for a family man. My work almost always took me away from home.
In my spare time I still spent a lot of time on the computer just casually playing with my own personal website and visiting forums for open source software learning and helping others create websites with it. Then one day this past winter we had company over that is very deep into and well respected in the computer world. Of course the conversation turned to that and I turned my computer on to show him what I do. He was quite impressed, which had a big impact on me coming from him. He asked me why I go away from home for work when I could be doing my own thing right at home.
I did not have an answer for him so here I am. I never went back to camp this spring, I started developing my business instead. I host and create...and more importantly, the part I enjoy most, I help others create business and community websites using my favourite open source software. I have not made a dollar at it yet lol But I have been very much enjoying it and I am excited about it. I do believe if I keep at it the potential is there. It will just take time, dedication and passion which I have no shortage of.
On a side note to my friend from another forum that pm'd a welcome to me. I got the pm but I don't think I have enough posts to be able to answer you yet.....or I am just a little slow because I am still working on my first coffee lol Ether way I will get there and I did take your suggestion to post an intro, here I am! :great:
