I was backing up my forum a few min ago, and while waiting I started to read the top of the backup page. It reads,

"Here you can backup all your phpBB related data. You may store the resulting archive in your store/ folder or download it directly."

Does this include the mySQL databases? I dont think so, and if not dont you need to back those up too in case of a crash? Or can you restore a forum without them...

All it does is backup all the phpBB data in the database.... It doesn't backup any files.

Any i would recommend not using the phpBB backup facility as it can cause issues when you add mods that affect the db or it can cause issues with incomplete backups or backups not restoring when your forum grows.

It is best to backup you database through phpMyAdmin and then if you need to restore it it should always restore properly and not have anything missing. If you have to restore a phpBB backup made by the phpBB backup facility there is more chance of problems occurring.

Gotcha. Thanks for the tip as well, ill start doing that. I really dont feel like losing everything I have due to a backup error.

Forums backup systems are not really that good especially if you have an active forum but it is better then no backups though.
