Well, the forums I work on are both very large, and as we all know large unsightly forums can be a deterrent to new users.

I'm curious as to your guys's opinions on forum sections hidden from the view of non registered users only, to reduce initial size appearance of the forum?

Hiding sections of the forum for things like sections provided to users to link to other sites, Suggestions forums, category assistance, off topic chat and the like form guests.

Well, I would say it's okay to hide some things on forums. Like if you have a graphics show-off section, you could want to hide that so guests can't steal graphics and claim it as their own, but otherwise, I'm sure there are others you could hide too.

I only have one hidden forum to guests... and that forum is the Rule-Relaxed area. Which you also need 20 posts to access once you're a member 😛

I have staff sections and VIP sections that are hidden. Everything else is on view.

Depends what's there. I usually hide my 'arts' forums to avoid plagarism, as well as hidden staff forums

However, it would be wise to let the guests see some, or most of your content.

Some forums hosted on zetaboards have a tendency to not show any of their community to you. I get tired of just seeing the index.
It's not wrong to hide a few forums..but all?
Especially when you're not a closed community?
Kinda turns me off.
You could at least let the General Discussion are be visible..and we could read the topics. XD Afterall the general discussion area is usually the core of the community.

I have hidden forums, but for differing reasons.

The issue with the forums being hidden is they are often also hidden from Google and other spiders, which is ultimately a BAD thing.

Anything a regular member can see, a guest can see. There is no point in hiding things from your potential members.
