I think it's stupid when people hide their online status...

What do you think about it?

It is a feature that anyone can use

It isn't stupid, they just don't want people to see what they are doing, I go hidden often.

I don't find no problem with it, Fowler usually does it and I have done it a few times.

Interesting new concept that's taking the world by storm: Privacy.

What people don't realize is just how important it can be. There's a reason I pay for several protective services which I use regularly. Not just for doing "illegal" things, but for everyday life. I don't love people always knowing what i'm up to, and i'm personally glad there is that option.

I don't see the problem with hidden users. Do we really need to track everything?

I am hidden for 2 reasons. I have never liked people seeing what i am doing (e.g acp, work out who i am sending/receiving PM's from, what forums i am reading). Also it means that should any spammer feel like trying to attack us when no admins are on (which has happened a bit recently) I can pounce on them and it makes it a bit harder to work out if i am here or not.

Why would it matter if someone knows what you are doing / reading?

Anyways I go hidden sometimes just because I am in the mood to do so. No real explanation behind it.

I only go hidden when I'm specifically hiding from someone.

I reckon it gives yourself "some" privacy, although staff can still see if you are online or not.

I have never gone on annonymously on the forums. Have never really seen a need for it but I do see your points of privacy that is needed. Works for some.
