Hiding your online status

Do you ever use the 'hide my online status' sort of function on forums? Do you use it for your own forum?

I show my online status as I feel it helps forums look more active. I do however hide my current activity.
I've only went "invisible" on my forum to test out some things a few times. Otherwise I feel members like seeing when the Admin was on.

I don't hide from people. As a site owner or Admin, I want people to know that I'm around.

I never hide my online status on my forum nor do I hide it on other forums. I used to a while back on a few Sonic forums, since I didn't have much time to respond to private messages from other members.

I did and still do.. mainly because on some forums, as soon as I am seen online, my inbox is inundated with pms.. and sometimes I am only on for like a minute and then I am gone so I dont always have the time.

And in the past, I did so because I would often get flirty or nsfw pms on other forums for no other reason than being female.. these idiots did not care if I was an admin or not.. and I have banned more than a few of them. It really is beyond ridiculous that they actually think a woman would actually respond to crap like this.

Whether or not to hide your online status on a forum depends on your own personal preference. If you prefer to have your activity on the forum be private, then hiding your online status may be a good option for you. On the other hand, if you want to be visible to other members and potentially engage in conversations with them, it may be better to leave your online status visible. Ultimately, the decision is up to you and what makes you feel comfortable on the forum.

I only ever use the feature if I log in to my forum from a mobile device so my members don't know I'm online at the time if they need help with something, because it's a bit hard to help with most forum issues over a mobile device.

I allow my forum members to choose between hiding their online status and showing their online status. When I sign up on a forum, I always check the show online option, with a few exceptions.

As much as I know the invisible option is available, I have never had any reason to use it on any forum and I tend to keep my online status on so that people can see I am online.

I can understand why some people would opt to use it though.

In the past I have used it, but rarely do I like using it as I have been on forums where Staff will always use it and it doesn’t present a good image if even the Staff can’t see invisible users like I have seen before.

Not at all. I never hide my online status as I prefer to be more seen as approachable. This counts for anything really, I have no reason to hide myself from a list. Obviously everyone will have their own preferences.

On Facebook, well my business page, I do make it where I'm away during the late night hours so that those who message me know my hours.

You are so lucky, When people see me online they can't wait to go offline and leave I get 0 inbox calls..
