Hire experienced or non-experienced staff?

I hire non experienced. Ragezone hired me as a non experienced staff and now look at me , I own my own forum , I moderate 3 diff forums and one of them being the worlds largest mmo forum.

Note the term "hire". If you "hire" anyone, it should definitely be a professional who fulfills his or her duties flawlessly. As long as money is involved, I will be assured that the hired moderator will not go on a power trip or start harassing any of my members.

It's better to recruit people who share mutual interests. The only problem that I can see with this is that if they do get called out by members on their mishaps, personal feelings will get in the way of doing your job right. You must make it clear to your moderators that no one is above the established rules, regardless of what they are.

I would PREFER a staff member who has experience with phpBB and running a forum in general; however, I will gladly try to train someone who has no experience in the position they're trying to apply for. After all, they don't call them "trial sessions" for nothing! Think of it as job shadowing in real life: You apply for a position, but while you're waiting to find out if you've been accepted or not, someone who already is experienced with the kind of field you want to go into shows you the ropes and the ins and outs of the job. Most places only let you watch what the person working with you is doing, but there's a few places that are slowly but surely allowing hopefuls some hands on experience. OT: I'm more of a hands on learner myself. I hate sitting back and watching people... I would much rather jump in and help and learn from any mistakes right away rather than doing something that could cost me my job later on down the road if I really do get in trouble for something.

Some jobs need experience, some don't. And some need people between. And above all, it's up to your manage style! 🙂
