Do you prefer to hire from within or do you bring people from other sites? If hiring externally, what kind of feedback do you get from your members? If hiring internally, do you find that some members will get jealous and becomes inactive because they felt like it should have been them? How do you deal with that?
Members can apply for the position and then go thru job training. Internally, application process. Internally don't need the training cause they know the rules of the the forum. Externally, application and job training.
I only hire those within my circle, because at least I trust them. Very rarely do I ever accept outsiders, unless if I really need to (as long as any of them have prior experience and are trustworthy in general).
I've had a bunch of forums and I always accepted outsiders. I won't hire an admin that I don't know but I'll definitely hire moderators that I don't know but have put a decent application in. I hired one guy, off of here actually, as an admin of one of my forums and he completely wrecked the place. He deleted as much as he could and did a bunch of other stuff. Luckily I had backups so I was able to just ban him and move on.
Some or most doesn't have an choice, For small or if not starting out sites they have less members and so it's only the single or if not already in forums from the passed hire from the person you know from other sites. Then not so very active site's with allot of staff members looks bad, even if they all posting more then members. I post it out on FP and just wait and hear from those that are interest then I go thought the progress. Most that are interested have good backgrounds (well I accepted those that do).
