I have been thinking for the past few days, going back in forth in my head on whether or not it's best to hold applications for a certain staff position, or to choose from the member base that's already active on the forums. What does everyone here think?

Do you think it's best to hold applications for users, even if they are on your site already, or do you think it's better to pick members that are actively posting around and skipping the whole application process?

I think it could go either or. I, personally, would do both. Using applications is a good way to see an interest check. You could see what users would be interested in the position you are hiring for. But hiring without applications is also a great method in my opinion.

I would go with some of the best members on your website. You can reach out to them to see if they're interested. Sometimes the best posters don't want to become the best staff members, so you may need to open up the application process to all of your members if you can't convince enough of your best posters to become staff.

Instead of having everyone start with an application I think you should post an announcement letting everyone know that you are looking for additional staff. Direct them to either reply to the thread, or PM you if they are interested. You could ask some questions casually or reply with some sort of small application for them to fill out.

I don't think it really matters as long as you get enough information to know they will be a good fit. If you use an application, make sure it's not too lengthy. I've played videogames before where you have to fill out an application that takes 30-45 minutes, if not longer, just to join an established clan or ingame group. That gets out of hand. "Please write at least 3 paragraphs detailing your experience with this game, with proof that you are good at it." My favorite was being given 3 riddles to solve. One was a riddle with the Fibonacci Sequence as the answer, the others were just as abstract. One gaming clan required a mini essay on what you would do if you had to destroy one US State and why you chose that state.

Essays are general assignments that students regularly meet in their coursework. It is essential, so, for students to disseminate themselves with the skills of writing essays so as to be sure of their writing skill. Trusting essay writing service reviews offered by professionals is forever a better choice than struggling with your essay and later on moving your academic performance.

The door swings both ways.Applications are good...but I wouldn't recommend holding on to applications or giving any assurances that you would if you never intended on recruiting that person as staff.

I think it's definitely important to reference applications and may even be worth reaching out to those IF they are still active in the forum. I always prefer hiring from within as opposed to reaching outside of the forum because you want someone on the staff team that has a certain level of commitment to the forum. I really like Ashley z's comments on the subject. I never thought about asking unrelated questions just to gauge if the applicant would fit in well with the team based on how they answer the question can really reveal their sense of humor, problem solving skills, etc.

I prefer to take the route of promoting a member depending on their activity, length of time they have been around, being helpful to new members (and much more besides). Although, I do like applications, I think even those who are not that experienced have a chance to prove themselves they're up for the job at hand.
