Do you think hiring teenagers to work on your forum is a good idea? Why or why not? What would make you change your mind? How often have you hired a teenager?

I think it should depend on the maturity of the person. If the teenager can act maturely when dealing with the situations of the community, then I don't see why not. Plus, I've seen some adults act just as bad or worse than children. So I think it has more to do with their maturity levels than their age.

Think about it how many teenagers own and run the forums/site 🙂 There are allot. What's the youngest age that we should not consider.

I was 12 when I first became a moderator (my god....10 years ago?!). 😛 I was a tad immature but nonetheless, you should not hire someone based off of age, but based on their ability to do the job at hand. If you think they would be a good fit for your community, then hire them. 🙂

I don't have a problem hiring teenagers as long as they're responsible and aren't power hungry (they aren't going to get it!) 😀 I think confidentiality is another thing I'd worry about if the site had a bunch of friends of the hired teen.

I think hiring teens are great often they have plenty of time you got to be careful some will be powerful and try to take over

I ran my very first forum when I was young and who was on it my friends we all used to hang and have fun oh I miss those days

Most teenagers are just as full of knowledge and I came to meet allot of teenagers who had 5 or so years experience, Hell many that are teenagers mods are at college and or doing there big-ticket gold class certificates. Hell, they have to start somewhere.

I started young

I don't see anything wrong with someone that's 16 years or older posting on my site. I wouldn't pay them to do it unless they were friends of someone I knew but we were all that age once. There's nothing wrong with a teenager posting on my site in my opinion.

Agree

This forum runs on having volunteers that are mixed ages, from 14 up to whoever is the oldest at the time. I don't think this forum would have succeeded that well, if all the people that had ever been accepted in various areas around the forum, were college age or higher.

I was 15 when I first joined the Community Team here and 16 when I became the CTL and let me tell you, I had to deal with more whiney and immature 'adults' than I did with people similar in age to me at the time. Age doesn't determine maturity.

I think my private messages are still full of old member's freaking out over small things.

I wouldn't hold age and quality of staffing as linked factors really. A lot of teenagers may be just as capable as "adults" and some adults might be just as whiney as some "teenagers" - I think it should always be experience and personal trait based rather than age when hiring

I'd say hiring mature teenagers to work on your forum is a great idea! You want people who have lots of free time, and you'll find that lots of those high schoolers and college kids have plenty of it. I've been in this hobby since I was twelve years old. Joined my first forum on 08/30/08, and started a forum soon after that.

Teenagers can create lots of great content. I think that as long as they are willing to work, then they should be given a chance.

I started shortly after graduating from high school back in 2008. I was about 19-ish?
