Hit counters and forums?

Personally, I hate them when theyre on forums. I can see them being fine on normal webpages, and very useful as well. Forums though...whats the point really? If each page counts as a hit, then just reading topics and such will get your counter up in the larger numbers.

Do you like them on forums or not?

Well that goes for websites too, every page someone visits the counter will increase. Topics on forums are simply pages on websites

Mine is built into my software (though I can disable it), so I use it. It is invisible and it only shows on my stats page, so it isn't annoying. It is nice how I can see the daily hits, so it tells me when the bots are coming to my forum.

I hate hit counters with a passion unless they are invisible. They are pointless to me. Doesn't matter how many people are visiting your forums if none of them sign up!

Well the ones that show where they link from can be great tools, because then you know what advertising is working well. I agree though, if I can see them it annoys me >_<

I like hit counters on normal web pages because they look nice, but on forums they look thrashy.

If i written an article or some sort of news , tutorial etc i would definitely like to see how many hits the page has had 🙂

Thats the kind I hate, because it doesnt really count anything. A banner affiliate program could tell you the same thing, how many page views you get lol.

Well if it is visible, that is stupid. You could really throw those off by getting the image source for the counter and F5ing it a few hundred times.
