First Impressions & Appearance
Your forum's theme feels out of place. If you look at the top, there is a white bar, and then a bigger bar where the forum starts. I am not sure if this was an edit to make it bigger, but it looks weird and miss-shaped.
It is a nice theme, you have a lot of custom images going on. I really like the logo, the text really fits into the graphic.
There are a lot of banners at the top of the forum, and it looks messy. Try displaying some 'alerts' in different ways like graphics, forum topics, ect. Also, on the nav bar at the top just under the logo, you cannot see the words because of the color of blue and black. The register button should always stand out, you don't want possible members fighting to register.

Site Layout
The "Overview" box is too big. Lowering the amount of stats it has in it will help make it smaller and then make it easier to scroll down and get to the forum.
I like the tabbed layout scheme. It helps big forums get organized. It is really nice and I believe you have fit everything correctly. It looks really good.

I think the ad at the bottom at the page should be centered. It doesn't look good/right left aligned. Also try moving the ad placement before the Group Legend box. That may help you earn more revenue by having it closer to the top.

Statistics and Activity
You have been open for about a year and you have 65,000 posts. I don't know exactly when or if hockey season ends. I know when the football season ends, football forums tend to have a significant decrease in activity, so that may be happening to you.
Off-season contests would be a great thing. Like by making so many posts you get x prize or you get a special rank, or something like that. That will help boost your activity in down times.

Staff Moderation
The staff are doing a really great job. They stay active and keep the forum clean, safe and fun. I do think you have more than plenty administrators. About 4 (including you) and multiple moderator type positions. I'd cut back on hiring any new staff for a while.

Spelling/Grammar & Professionalism
The forums are very descriptive. I really like most of them. Some of them I'd remove because they are kind of "General Knowledge" for a hockey buff that joins your forum like the NHL. You don't give a real big description about it, and it is one of those general hockey things.
Spelling and grammar is really good throughout the forum. It all looks very nice.
